This year IPSP partnered with the Youth7 Group (Y7), along with the OECD, the IDDRI, the ESCP Europe, the OFCE and other main institutions. The Y7, is the G7 youth engagement group initiated by Open Diplomacy during the French presidency of the G20 / G8 in 2011.
The 2019 Y7 focused on inequalities. Their goal was to make concrete propositions to G7 leaders to tackle inequalities of all kinds: new form of inequalities stemming from climate change consequences or mitigation/adaptation policies or from technological disruptions as well as long-lasting gender imbalances or wealth and income discrepancies.
Dr. OIlivier Bouin (IPSP Steering Committee and Director of the Fondation/Laboratoire d’excellence “Réseau français des instituts d’études avancées”) attended two Y7 events:
1. The Y7 Panel on Inequalities on May 15, 2019 at the French National Assembly in which inequalities were tackled from 4 different angles:
- gender inequalities
- inequalities caused by climate changes
- inequalities caused by tech changes
- economical inequalities
Along with Dr. Bouin, Mr. Michel Derdevet, General secretary of ENEDIS, Mr. Hugues-Marie Aulanier, Strategy manager at Carbone 4, Ms. Caroline Ramade, Founder and General manager of 50 in Tech, and Ms. Isabelle Rausch, Member of the French Parliament for the LREM Party, were in attendance. Speakers discussed with a group of 30 youths to prepare for the Y7 Summit.
2. The Y7 Summit (June 9-14, 2019) under the High Patronage of Mr. Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic.
From June 9th to 14th, delegates from the G7 countries, the European Union, and the African Union gathered in Paris for a week of negotiations. Their goal was to prepare a call to action with recommendations to the G7 Heads of State and Government. The Y7 looks forward to personally presenting these recommendations to G7 leaders at the 2019 G7 Summit on 24-26 August, in Biarritz.
Dr. Olivier Bouin attended the Summit on June 12 for a working session with Y7 delegates about inequalities.
IPSP is proud to have contributed shaping the “CALL TO ACTION ON G7 LEADERS FOR A FAIR FUTURE” and thank the Institute Open Diplomacy for this opportunity.
